Virgina Kelsch launched Kelsch Consulting after 25 years in higher
education advancement to assist nonprofits and educational institutions
in strengthening their organizational effectiveness. For her vision
and leadership, Gina served as chair-elect of the Council for
Advancement and Support of Higher Education (CASE), the world’s
largest educational association with more than 3,000 institutional
members and 20,000 professional representatives.
Kelsch was selected as the Capital Region’s National Society
of Fund Raising Executives’ Outstanding Fund-Raising Executive
in 1998. She has developed highly acclaimed training programs
for CASE and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, teaching
fundraising, alumni relations, advancement services, management,
and strategic planning sessions at regional and national conferences
and seminars around the country.
During her tenure with the University of California, Kelsch developed
a reputation for developing organizations to their fullest potential.
As associate vice chancellor of university relations at UC Davis,
she provided leadership to the entire campus’s development
efforts, alumni relations and advancement services units. She
managed a budget of $6.3 million and 89 FTE. After 11 years, private
support increased from $21 million to over $72 million and she
oversaw the completion of 21 special project campaigns totaling
$85 million. When she left, the campus had 13 campaigns totaling
$115 million more than half-way toward their respective goals.
Kelsch was also responsible for providing leadership and direction
to the UC Davis Foundation. As its executive director, it evolved
from a friend-raising and advisory organization to a board actively
engaged in fund raising. During her tenure, the Foundation’s
endowment grew from $1.8 million to over $75 million and the University’s
total endowment increased from $100 million to $400 million.
Prior to UC Davis, Kelsch served as president of the St. Mary
Medical Center Foundation (Long Beach, California). She worked
at UC Irvine for 11 years in the areas of development and alumni
relations. She began her career as coordinator of Alumni Relations
at California State University at Fullerton, her alma mater.
